Mother's Day Essay Contest Announced For 2011
MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – Youngsters will have to opportunity to put into words why they believe they have the greatest mom of all. The Sixth Annual Mother's Day Essay Contest for elementary and middle school students is being presented by Quassy Amusement Park as part of the landmark property’s comprehensive educational package. With the theme "Why My Mother Should Be Quassy's Mom Of The Year," students are encouraged to write essays of 250 words or less for the contest. “The essay contest has been a fantastic educational tool - embraced by many regional schools,” said George Frantzis II, an owner of the park. “We have put a lot of emphasis on educational programs in recent years. Surprisingly, Quassy now offers more than a dozen programs for students to participate in.” After reading all of the essays, the park selects a group from each grade level to be considered as finalists and those entries are read again to choose the winners. “But every student who enters is really a winner as they took the time to compose an essay,” Frantzis added.
