It's surprising just how much work it takes to get the park ready to open for the season. A lot of folks seem to think that once Quassy closes in the fall, that we pack up our bags and head for locations in the South to bask in the sun and sip on iced tea on the beaches. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Our maintenance team remains busy dismantling and storing rides and other equipment for the off-season and our shop complex is buzzing with activity on a daily basis. This past winter the seats on the Frantic thrill ride (shown in the accompanying photo) were repainted and look like the day they came out of the factory - taking into account the attraction has seen six seasons of operation. Components on Saturation Station interactive water play area in Splash Away Bay waterpark received the same treatment and will be sparkling in the sun come warmer weather.
An annual ritual of going through the mechanical rides from top to bottom also occurs during the fall and winter months before everything is reassembled in the spring to kick off the new season. The rides do crank up this year on Saturday, April 24. You'll have to wait a bit for the waterpark as the spigot will be turned on come May 29.
We also have an office staff that remains on duty year-round to answer calls, book outings and take care of other duties.
There's no doubt that we love what we do in providing the laughter and smiles associated with our business, but make no mistake, it takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes to make it all happen.
